Everyone has heard of or experienced the runners high, or the light and relaxed feeling from a good yoga session, or even the extra energy from being amped up after hitting a new PR on your favorite lift. It is well known that exercise, and physical activity in general can have massively positive impacts on your physical health, but it can't be overstated how much it benefits your mental health as well. In fact, the positive effects it has on the mind can prove to be just as notable as the positive effects it has on the body.

There are even variations in how different types of training affect the brain and how you feel. All exercise, though, regardless of type will profoundly uplift a person's mood during and after engagement. This effect can last for as little as a couple of hours to as much as a couple of days. Through stimulating the release of endorphins and cannabinoids locally and systemically in the body and brain, lowering blood pressure, lowering blood sugar, increasing blood flow, increasing BDNF, and more. Exercise, especially intense exercise will assist in fighting off low moods and mental degeneracy long term.

This effect is profound enough that many researchers suggest that exercise can be made a vital part of a persons' lifestyle to help fight off depression and low moods in general. This extends beyond the high that each individual workout brings, as the long-term improvements in health and body composition boost self-esteem, confidence, and sense of self-worth. You feel more connected to the best version of yourself and that can make anybody feel uplifted when tackling the stresses of life.

Speaking from personal experience, I don't feel like myself without a good daily sweat session. No matter what is going on in my life it always makes things better. When things are going well, movement makes it better, and when I've run into a rough patch, things always got a little bit brighter. Take this message as permission to get moving and embrace active living. Movement is life and you deserve to live fully.
